Community mental health centers saw their budgets slashed when Kansas issued a series of funding cuts over a three-year period. At one point, the cuts added up to nearly $20 million. The reductions resulted in a general downsizing of mental health services; gaps in psychiatric care; and fewer specialized behavioral health services, such as those for pregnant women and individuals with co-occurring disorders.
