In 2012, the City of Independence implemented a healthy vending policy in all vending machines in all city facilities. After that institutional policy, change began to flourish. Children’s Mercy Hospital banned the sale of sugary soft drinks in its facilities, while the City of Kansas City, Missouri, began establishing nutrition standards and selling healthy foods in its vending machine and city parks.
