The Missouri Department of Mental Health privatized many of its inpatient psychiatric beds and closed the Western Missouri Mental Health Center. In addition to the shutdown of Western Missouri, the entire greater Kansas City community experienced a decrease in the number of facilities providing residential mental health treatment and the number of psychiatric treatment beds within facilities.
