The American Cancer Society and the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City led an effort to increase the tobacco tax in Missouri. The Show-Me a Brighter Future campaign aimed to increase the tobacco tax by 79 cents in Missouri and lost by a small margin. The campaign failed largely due to public resistance to tax increases and government regulation
